RELATION SHIPS

I was all right
and doin just fine
when you came stumbling to my door
like some drunken sailor
with no port to rest his bow
(and no obvious place to go)
and I
(not having half the sense to lock you out)
took you in
and tied you to the dock
in spite of your requests
to perch upon my sandy shore
(like this was some open waterfront for late night fishermen)

On your next voyage
you scheduled a quick rendezvous with love
(and your sand pail and your shovel)
ready to build
a castle or two
with me
side by your side

I hoisted my sails
and brought my ship in close to yours
but by the time
I came to realize
you had black pirates on board
my starboard saddled upon your stern
(guess I forgot to drop the anchor again)
and that was it
that was the end
the cannons fired twice
and we were dead
(I never really did like the sea much anyway).
