illustration: JOURNEY TO THE SHORE OF THE DREAMLESS SEA

A SONG FOR RICHARD BY THE SEA

Here I go again
running right beind myself
like the sands of time
that drift within an hourglass
of my own imprisoned unrealities
where I spend the day
in a conversation with myself
while you write love letters
to the sea
and walk the shoreline
in search of your sanity
like dolphins
between the waves
that dance with the salt and the foam
as if nothing else mattered
except the constant lullabye
made by the wind and the rain
and the sun
and the sea

Sometimes I swear
I heard the water sing to you
just like a lover

Come away with me
Come away home
No bad dreams will ever find you
When you're soft asleep at sea

And there
in her summer darkness
I found sweet Richard
sleeping forever with the sun in his arms
and the colors of the day
by his side
as the seagulls cry
and the seagulls leave
like wild seeds against the morning
sailing in perfect harmony
with the wind and the waves
and the sand
and with me

Come away to sea
Come away home
No bad dreams will ever find you
When youre soft asleep with me

And every word
was a symphony
as I watched the boats sail by
like hours of time
from the deepest part of my hourglass
and listened patiently
to the waves sing their song of love
for Richard by the sea.
